After wobbling a bit, then deciding to keep the Tacoma, I’ve changed my mind once again. I’m going to list it, again, but actually at a reasonable price in order to sell it. Took the family up camping over the weekend and it is just packed.

Poor doggo can’t really get comfy when the twins aren’t sharing their car seats arm rest. The arm rests double as a doggo car pillow, which seems uncomfortable but it is default doggo position. Who am I to judge.

Anyway, I’ve found this F-150 and I really like the straight forward nature of it. Everything I need. Nothing I don’t. I’d love to hook up the boat and try out the trailer backup system. 17 inch wheels with good tires, tow package, cloth seats, AC, cruise control. Could even seat 6 in a pinch. That tool box can go though. Anyone need a tool box?

Edit: Since used car prices are apparently through the roof, I’ve re-listed the Taco at a slight discount from earlier this spring . Have two scheduled showings for today. The ad went live around 1 PM local. Tacoma’s are a hell of a drug.

Man going from a Tacoma to an F150 is going to be like going from Tuff shed to a 6000 square foot house.

Man, I go back and forth on the 4Runner, too. When loaded up, it is LOADED UP. The easy solution is for me to say I really like the 4Runner, and if the in laws are moving in, it’s my wife’s deal to get a suitable vehicle. Except, I like the 4Runner, don’t love it, and she’s content with the Jeep (even though it’s in the shop right now). We shall see.

Anyway, looks like a good truck. I’d rock an F150. I find the Ram interiors nicer, but feel like I’d trust an F150 more overall.

Good choice on the 5.0. The timing chain on the boost engines is so expensive. All off my friends with the 3.5 have had to put $4-$6k into the top ends before 200,000 miles. I lease my f150s and buy Chevys. My Caddylanche is rusting away at 240,000 and still  running strong.

Dodge really has upp ed their interiors lately. Coil springs on the rear end are a siren song.

I really like the previous gen Sierra’s. You don’t see those as often as a Chevy or Ford. Honestly, I’d prefer a Tundra for resale but the gas mileage is terrible on those. The dropping rear window does seem pretty cool though.

I have never dropped the rear glass if fear of it not sealing back up. The front of the bed going down works awesome for camping. Both of my trucks get worked really hard. My next Chevy will be a 3500.

Apparently the only reason why the timing chain would become an issue is if cheap, non-sythetic 5W20 motor oil was used... or oil changes weren’t done when needed.

https://www.f150ecoboost.net/threads/what-percentage-of-11-14-ecoboost-have-timing-chain-issues.54689/

If the vehicle has been taken care of using the proper 5W30 oil, the timing chain shouldn’t have any issues... especially if synthetic oil is used.

I would have increased the price honestly lol. But I think the GM trucks are better used you can get them optioned better, but good luck!

That makes some sense. I can’t count 5 trucks that have had to be fixed in my circle. 2 of which took out the turbos somehow. They other 5-6 trucks I know do not have enough miles yet to qualify. The 5.0 trucks have had 0 problems. Everybody here drives trucks.

Dodge eats head gaskets. Chevys eat intake gaskets and lifters. Pick what truck  is easy to fix and hope for the best.

I probably should have. Shook hands at full price last night. Had three very interested parties. Two scheduled for yesterday and the third person lost out due to phone tag.

I’m look at ‘ 15+ which is the 2nd gen I believe. The issue doesn’t seem to be as prevalent. Good to know about the synthetic oil.

Well just as a general thing, synthetic oil is more resistant to breaking down in higher heat situations... like in turbocharged engines.

So for me, whenever I’ve had a car with a turbocharged engine, I’d use a synthetic that would meet the manufacturers spec.

For a non-turbo engine, you can usually get away with using regular oil, unless synthetic is specified by the manufacturer.

And then there are cases where you don’t want to use synthetic at all ... like in a stock Mazda rotary engine... unless it has been modded with a SOHN adapter (which means you have a separate tank for 2 stroke oil needed for combustion and the sump can then be filled with synthetic).
